2.4 modifications

I just purchased a 2.4t from a friend for a track car project I have been working on. I am not new to Porsches but have never gotten involved with engine mods. My goal is to increase the power and make the engine more suited to a life on the track. The engine is stock and needs to be freshened up. I would like advice on what mods you guys would recommend. I'd like to keep the budget around $2500 and would like the get the most bang for the buck. I'm leaning towards running carbs. Thanks for the advice..

JMHO, but you need to redo your budget. $2500 doesn't do much for you for performance modifications that yield decent power changes.

I'd recommend that you garner your resources to allow you to make the substantial upgrades that offer more performance.

All I can say is listen to the Steve. He's BTDT. The cheapest performance track motors I've seen are at least 10k by the time your all in. It can be done wisely and watching the wallet, but 2.5k would be tough to do anything but a very basic rebuild.

I'd greatly suggest digging thru the engine section and read what fancies you. There are a lot of ways to skin a Porsche and given the age it's rare want something that hasn't been done already.

Good luck and welcome to the slippery slope (waving from the very bottom :D:D:D).

The idea was to get as much done as possible for now, maybe cams or a set of good used pistons and cylinders or increase the compression and or carbs and then hopefully next year upgrade to a higher displacement engine.(I will be doing the work myself) I'm not planning to do any racing, just DE events so won't be limited to certain displacement. Spending 10k is ok but not on a 2.4 for that money I should be able to get into a good 3.2 Thanks

Get some 2.2 E pistons, or S and a set of S or Solex cams. Port some and you can be at about 200 horse with Webers.

Compression and Cam are your best bang for the buck
