Distributor/rotor question
 

Hi there

About to renew rotor and cap on my distributor. Distributor is Bosch, car is euro sc-79 3.0

According to the books by wayne the bentley it should be just to pull the rotor off.
Tried prying hard with screwdriver but its stuck, totally. Afraid to move the whole shaft if I use more force. Put distributor back in place again. The new rotor doesnt look exactly the same as the old one on the picture, but numbers are (almost) matching. New one ordered from pelican.

Have anyone any trick on this or do i have to split it by cutting the plastic in two? old one is still working, but was about to change it since the rest of the engine is overhauled.

Is this what the rotors looked like in -79 or has anyone done something strange to mine during the years?

Hoping to get the engine back in the car in the near future, this has taken way to much time, hehe.

Pull straight up on the rotor and it should come off of the shaft. If your prying, be careful, you may break the black dust cover underneath the rotor :(

The shaft rusts a bit under the rotor, they can be a real pain to remove. It seems cleaning the affected part with a bit of emery cloth just makes the problem worse next time. If you get really desperate use a cold chisel right on the top and give it a whack, it should split in two. The rotor you have contains a resistor element and the amount of resistance is shown in the P/N, probably 1K or 5K Ohms. The other feature of this rotor is the RPM limit. The white part in the center extends under centrifugal force and grounds the center conductor. There were several limits available depending on the application. Some people like these and some hate them. It's up to you.
