3.0SS Build question

Guys,

Slowly collecting parts for a 3.0SS on an early turbo case ( LN 98 Jugs x 66 Crank) and want to know what is the optimal Carb size.

I have 46 PMOs right now, was wondering if 50mm PMOs would be a better choice? Could do a trade with a local guy + a few $$ if it is a better way to go.

Thanks,

Jimmy

I have a 3.0 but with 70.4 crank and 95.0 bore. It has 46 Webers and runs extremely well. I don't see why the larger bore / shorter stroke would make any difference. 50s are too big. Depending on the camshafts and heads the 46s may be too big as well but I doubt it.

I used GE60 cams with 10.5 pistons, twin plug and headers. You would never know it wasn't stock below 4500 rpm, very smooth and streetable. It does come on the pipe pretty hard after 4500 but that's the fun of it.

It will really depend on your final combination (cams, heads, CR, ignition, exhaust). If it were me I would count on keeping the 46 PMOs.

Lindy,

I have the DC-62 cams, JB twin plug dist, worked crank, the 46 PMOs and most of the smaller parts. Saving up for the other parts as well as LN Barrels/10:5:1 pistons, headers and will sell off my Extreme 2.5 heads to off set the cost of them doing the my 3.0 heads. So the motor should move some air.

This is why I was wondering if the 50 PMOs might be a better way to go.

I will be collecting (building the car fund up) parts for a while yet but the 50s are available for a trade now and wanted to move on them if it was decided they were better for this appliocation.

Thanks,

Jimmy

The info you just supplied will help others "in the know" make better suggestions. My opinion is that your 46s are going to be plenty. William Knight at KNIGHTRACE is a pretty good resource for carbed hot rods like yours. He helped me with my set-up and it works great. Give him a shout.

46's are good. 50's are too big. Bigger will erode low end torque. Unless this is a race motor that will live at 6k RPM+, Id think you will be unhappy with 50's.
