911 sc engine

Hello. I am relatively new to the 911 scene. About 8 months ago I bought a 1979 911 SC. Great shape. My Question is the engine fan shroud is red. Is this the stock color for that year? From my research on earlier models, the higher horsepower "S" had the red cover. Also it has the "Whale Tale" and wide rear fenders. It is not a turbo. I don't know if this would have come from the factory or if they were added later. I have the original dealer paperwork that shows it was delivered in California.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thans, Ron.

Hi Ron

Welcome to the club/madness.

More then likely after market vice Special Wish Program.

Are the rear fender steel or fiberglass (a/m).

We need photos, lots of photos SmileWavy

Mine is red also but it's a RoW car if that makes a difference .

I'm pretty sure all SC's came with a red shroud. I don;t think it means anything, like it did in the earlier 911's.

Try this VIN Decoder: Porsche VIN Decoder, VIN Lookup, Decode VIN

It should be able to tell you if the tail and turbo flares were factory. If it's a turbo body then the option will be M491.

The dealer paperwork should also specify.

I second the need for pics!

All SC engines have red shrouds.

Yes and I don't know of any SC that had a special "S" model with more power. Maybe he's referring to the pre-SC longhood cars?

Unfortunately only work on the 17 digit VIN that started in 81.

And we are still waiting for the photo(s) ;)
