Dropping the Engine

I want to jack up my car high enough to pull the engine and Transmission. Where's the best place to jack the car up from?

I dragged it home... flat6pac
Thats my link and it shown a 85 car in the air to get the engine and the way I lift it has worked for over 30 years for me.

So it looks like a 2X4 underneath just past the shift coupler is how you jack it up. Then do you put the jack stands under the torsion bars?

Bruce, your link is screwed up.

I use the factory jack points and put 5-6" of wood (2x12x16s) under some wheel ramps under the front wheels. Use the t-bars for the rear w/ 6ton stands and some more wood. Pull the rear valence off. use a 4x4x24 just in front of the torsion tube to lift the car more once the engine is actually out of the car and on the ground.

I'll put the car up about a foot then pull the eng/tranny and put it on wood on the floor. Then raise the rest of the car up as needed.

Lots of threads w/ pics if you search around...

Trying to keep things safe.........

I use a Sears ATV jack under the engine/transmission. With the car up just high enough to work under to get everything loose, I let the engine/tranny down on the atv jack. Then, with the drivetrain out of the body, I jack the chassis up and away from the engine. Once the body is high enough to remove the drivetrain, I let the chassis back down to a safer level. This process really helps with my safety comfort level. Good luck!
