Why is the gasket set for my early 3.0 turbo so expensive?

Wholy mackerel batman, it is double what a 3.0/3.2 na, or 3.3 turbo set is. I have to assume it has something to do with the cylinders themselves, as the head set alone is signifigantly more than a 3.0/3.2, or 3.3 head set
I just may have to build up a set ala cart.

Check out the price on the o-rings (the white ones) that seal the pipe from the compressor to the valve housing. It'll make you want to add an intercooler.

As I recall, I bought the 3.3 gasket set, and found a cheaper source for the o-rings for the compressor outlet pipe, and it worked out okay. Also, you may not need these o-rings. They seem to hold up pretty well to re-use, which is probably why they cost as much as they do.

My information is potentially out of date. I did my 3.0 rebuild in 2007.

So does a 3.3 turbo. and I believe that they are the same gasket. The head gaskets are not all that spendy individually, are the base gaskets any different than other 95mm cylinders? I will have to look into those o rings .

Why is a Carrera gasket set more than an SC set, there is no head gaskets...
