Help! 1994 3.6 Turbo Piston orientation
 

Hey guys,

I'm rebuilding (top end) on my 1994 3.6 turbo and am stuck in determining the piston orientation. I took tons of pictures during the disassembly to insure I installed it back the same way, but am concerned someone else has been in here before before me as the pistons on one bank seem to have been installed upside down.

There is an "E" stamped on the piston and no other arrows or helpful identifiers. Also, the valve relief is the same on both sides but as the pistons are off-set, the orientation matters.

Anybody know which way is up/down for each of the cylinder banks?

Just read the above thread...The "E" should be pointed towards the intake

Thanks, I saw that right after I posted (oops) and it still seems bizarre to me as this approach will be putting more stress on the cylinder walls on bank 4-5-6. In other words, because the pistons are offset, one bank should have the "E" pointing down, right?

Can anyone explain why Porsche would do this?

Or am I just smoking crack? (dont answer that::)

Generally, on the turbo pistons, there is a squiggle with an arrow pointing and the arrow is suposed to point toward the flywheel.
