Flywheel sensor Q..?
Does the Motronic need both flywheel sensors connected in order to start the car?
My understanding of it was that one tells the DME that the engine is turning over and to send fuel and the other is the TDC sensor to tell the DME when to fire the plugs. Currently enjoying a none start senario. We have fitted the first sensor above but as we are running twin plug ignition (this is all done by the separate XDi ignition box run of a crankshaft sensor) did not fit the TDC sensor. The garage is about to double check the height setting of the sensor 0.9mm. If its not that should I be popping the TDC sensor on, or is that a waste of time? Should we be looking at the alarm/imobiliser??? The engine turns over normally and there is a spark albeit weak, so if there was some fuel it should at least splutter ..correct? That is where we're at and are starting to scratch heads.... Come on Motronic wizards, please help. Db |
Both flywheel sensors have to be plugged in and correctly attached to the DME harness. If it doenst start, change the connections because both sensors are the same but giving different info to the DME.

My understanding is one is simply for start and the other is for timing. We had a problem with a BMW (similar Motronic) that wouldn't start because the set screw in the flywheel wasn't being picked up by the sensor.
