smog pump

Not exactly a rebuild question, but I was not sure where else to go.

The smog pump on my 1978 911sc flamed out yesterday. My question is: what happens if I continue to drive it? Will it have an impact on something else, or does it just mean I don't need to worry about it until I have to smog my porsche again? (California)

Thanks.

Define "flamed out". That could mean seized, not blowing air, broken belt, etc. You won't notice if the pump is spinning and no air is coming out, nor will it matter. However if the pump is seized and the belt is tuning on a frozen sprocket, be on the lookout for smoke and a broken belt.
