engine rebuild

when people say an engine has been rebuilt what do they acctually mean whats involved

Ask whoever used the term to be sure. Many people have different interpretations. Be especially vigilant and ready with questions if you're looking at sales ads.

I wouldn't call it a real rebuild unless the case was split, main bearings inspected and replaced if needed, the crankshaft measured and taken care of as needed, and every other wear part inspected and replaced as needed.
