Alusil Cylinders

Just took apart my 3.0 sc engine and discovered the previous owner must have had a prior rebuild. I found the prior rebuild consisted of someone taking a ball hone to the Alusil Cylinders. They cylinders and the pistons were properly scored as a result. Just venting my frustrations.... I guess the positive note would be that I have 6 new paper weights......

I know the Previous Owner feeling. Some of the things I had to fix on my '73 really made me wonder.

Were you having issues with the rings / cylinders that caused the rebuild? Just curious.

No I purchased a core engine, so I was going to rebuild it anyway. Not a huge deal but I hate to see when misinformed people do more harm then good......

That is too bad, isn't it? Are they able to be sent to EBS racing for some replating?

Not long ago, I saw a set on Evil Bay that the seller stated "where recently honed and ready to use in your newly rebuilt engine."

I thought, "oh dear." :(

They wanted something like $1,000.00 for the set too.

I am no expert on these matters, but with all that I do read here on Pelican from the experts (Wayne, Steve, Henry, and John Walker) on this board, one should have all the information to make better decisions about this issue.

US Chrome can turn worn Alusils into new Nikasils. You'd want first to buy a used set of Nikasil pistons with ring lands within spec.
