Have a 3.2 on my hand
Hi,
I have a 3.2 engine on my hand that I'm looking to buy for a winter project. Engine was taken out due to it lost compression on cyl #6. The owner never had the time to look into the engine, so does not know what failure it has. It can be e bent valve. This would be a cheap fix. What else can cause this? The plan is to do a complete rebuild and go EFI with ITB and velocity stacks for the vintage look |
Picked up a 86' 3.2 euro engine today. Came with ECU and wire's
This 3.2 is going to be my winter project, after the 3.0 SC engine I am doing now. Do not know yet if I will rebuild to original, using stock manifold/ECU with just a cam's, ARP and exhaust, or upgrade to ITB and EFI ++ I already have manifold and 41 mm ITB's What is the benefit going ITB and EFI over stock 3.2 manifold + ECU ? |

I can't quantify it, but the ITBs have to be a large improvement in volumetric efficiency over the 3.2 manifold. EFI means you can fairly easily (note I said fairly) do your own tuning at little or no cost and by yourself. No need to have someone burn a custom chip and so on. I once was eager to build a 2.1 liter turbo using the 3.2 manifold. I think that might have been cost effective, but noticed references here and there to maldistribution of air flow with the 3.2 manifold. Perhaps less important at the margins on a blown motor than normal aspiration? My wife put the kibosh on the little turbo - we can't afford to learn by blowing up was her rationale, which had some basis in reality. Then rules overly favorable to turbos changed as well. But I like the EFI I now have, even as I curse issues I find using it. Mostly due to my not yet understanding how to make the most of it relative to carburetors. |
