Safe to clean cylinder head in ultrasonic bath?

I'm hoping some of you may know this.

I noticed when I used an ultrasonic cleaner on some parts with chromatic zinc that almost all the zinc disappeared.

I have removed the cylinder head of my 944 turbo and I am tempted to put it in the ultrasonic bath to clean it properly.
Will the ultrasonic waves damage the parts? Are there any special coatings on the valves that can be damaged?

There are many types of fluid that can be used in the bath.
All the ultrasonic does is vibrate the part at very high frequency to shake loose the dirt.
So...the fluid is the problem...not the bath itself.
If you use a corrosive fluid (to zinc or the parent metal) you will have problems.
I have used a water based fluid with soap or detergent with good results.
My personal favorite is Trichloroethane (111 or NU) and heated to get faster results.
Be aware!!! Tri-Chlor is toxic to the lungs!
Maybe that's why I don't have much lung capacity anymore.
Good luck
Bob

For the turbo model If the ceramic exhaust ports are already damaged the utrasonic may cause further damage.

Hmm.... I guess that could be a good thing, showing up defects that may otherwise ruin the turbo.

Tri-Chlor is NOT brake cleaner...it is an industrial solvent.
Some of its variants are banned from use now (the good ones that did a great job) unfortunately.
Before that....PCB's were used (they found out that those caused Cancer)...but PCB did a terrific job in cleaning parts.
