QSC cylinders and piston kit revisited
Came across a QSC cylinder and piston kit on ebay. Looks too good to be true/any good. (100mm, 3.5 liter kit for my 3.2)
I see this topic has been discussed here before, but I wonder if maybe things have changed since 2009? I got to ask, because if they are now of good quality, why go with LN's or Mahles? Anyone got some experience with this brand since last time?? thanks, Otto |
why dont you go with JE's and replated Mahles. Gotta be better than QSC and are reasonably priced.
|
I have 12,000 miles on my qsc p&c's and it has been great. The comment about it has to be better to bore and replace might be or might not be true. If the QSC kit has been inspected and is good as Supertec does with there kit then you are good to go. Mine from Henry had J&E pistons and the qsc cylinders. No regrets except that I wish I had gone 3.5 instead of the 3.4. A little over 260hp from the rebuild
|
I have nothing bad to say about these, and for all I know they might be fine, but I am pretty sure Henry/Supertec quit using them.
As most of us are often looking to save $$$ when we can, I inquired about these P/Cs for my 3.6 rebuild recently, and he really only said he was no longer using them and would only recommend OEM Mahles. |
Thanks...
Looks like things still are as shady as it were before with QSC. That is enough fofr me to not order a set. I can't get any inspected sets anymore, so I feel that I would be gambling too much with that set. Is it really possible/advisable to bore out my 95mm Mahles to 100mm? That would be a far cheaper option than buying new sets. Of course, I would need new JE pistons. |
If I understand correctly 98mm is the limit on re-bores?
|
Correct, 100mm available for cases with the spigot bored and 100mm slip in available through LN Engineering.
Cheers |
I just did a quick search on eBay... Woooo. Damn they're cheap.
Anybody know were they are made? |
Hi guys.
Thanks, for the usual helpful info! BTW: they are made in china... |
