Distributor Adjustment
I've got a 71T motor with a Bosch distributor. I can't seem to get the distributor to rotate/adjust even with both the nut and the clamp loosened. Am I missing something here?????

Let me rephrase the question: How do I loosen the Distributor to set the timing?

loosen the clamp with a 10 box to adjust.

Thaank You! I'll bop it with a mallet.

Before you do anything, set the crankshaft on Z1 with #1 at TDC on the compression stroke-- the rotor should be pointing at the radial line on the distributor body
After you loosen the M6 bolt (10mm head) the distributor should turn freely. If it does not, heat the aluminum body of the distributor with a heat gun- you are breaking the corrosion between the shaft and the case. It will eventually come out |
There's the Money!
When the Crank is on Z1 the rotor is pointed at cylinder 1. Can't get a steady read on the timing light but it's north of Z1 and the advance is working. I'm guessing it's close enough to be running better than it actually is. I'm betting the bottom half is "in time". I'm worried about the top half, Cam Timing, because I got into that to replace rings. The valve lash remained right on the money when I checked it after the work so I'm hoping Cam/Valves are also in time. Wanted to rotate the Distributor as an experiment more than anything. It hasn't ran in many years so there's probably a good chance the problem lies in the Carbs even though they too look pretty good. |
