993 Vram muffler for 73 RSR
A newbie from across the pond needing some advice.
I am building a 73 RSR look alike from a 930 shell and putting a 993 3.6 Vram into it. Just puzzling about the muffler. Planning on using the stock headers with heat that came with the engine and having a muffler built to fit. Inlets to the muffler seem to be pre determined as there is not a great deal of space to play with so they will have to go into the back. Outlets need to look authentic, so twins out of the back. The puzzle is what to do inside the muffler to try to get the noise below 105 Db (the limit at most of our tracks) and to prevent the dreaded droning in the cabin. Has anyone got any experience of muffler internal design in this configuration, even better has anyone done this before and can help me by supplying a drawing that I can get built up over here in Blighty? Thanks for your help. |

Is this what you had in mind? Right side has same outlet pipe through the bumper cutout as the left shown in the picture.

Spot on. Exactly what I'm talking about. Car is even the right colour!
I'm hoping it's yours, if so do you have a resonance problem with the muffler and do you know the detail of the internal design? Thanks very much for your help. Nigel |

I don't know the internal design...it was ordered with only tailpipes to our specifications and we had flanges laser cut that we fitted the ovaled shaped pipe to. It has no resonance when driving, is probably under 98db.

120 HP/Liter is all I ask

Did you fabricate this muffler yourself?
