question for 73.5 cis

I have a 1973.5 cis motor that someone converted to carbs. My question is how are the injector bungs put into the heads? do the bungs push in, screw in or something else? The reason for wanting the info is, whoever plugged the injector holes did a crappy job and it looks 1/2 arse. I want to clean it up. The mfi heads had screw in injectors (I believe) and the method of plugging them was a allen type bolt and a seal ring similiar to a crush washer on oil drain plug.

They have a press in injector holder, PMO should have a proper blockoff for that, It is not as clean as the MFI screw in but works

Post a picture. Are the sleeves still intact? A rubber grommet was fit into the metal sleeve and then the injector was pushed in. If the metal sleeve is damaged it may need a different method. When I ran webers, I gave the local machine shop an injector and had them make 6 plugs out of aluminum to the injectors dimensions, but shorter, to plug the hole using the stock rubber grommets.

Here is what I currently have. I want to put 2.7 style intake on.
1, These interfere with intake mounting.
2, This is ugly, really ugly if I leave them and rework intake to relieve that are out.

Looks like he JB-Welded bolts into the sleeves. To get the clean look you want, I would say you need to pull the heads to clean it up. Pull the sleeves and tap the holes for a threaded plug.

They look like the sleeve and rubber were left in. Then a allen bolt was threaded into the rubber sleeve and covered over with silicone gasket cement. I turned one out with ease. JB weld would be hard, the crap around the allen head is soft and flexible. Is there a way to remove the steel sleeve with the heads in place?

You can get them out with a screw driver and pliars, or drill them out. They are only pressed into the head. They come down to about a half inch above the valve guide. If you are careful you could then thread the hole for a plug. Just make sure that you stuff the port and don't let any debris fall into the head.
