Best heat exchanger for this motor???
Hi,
I'm almost done amassing parts for my hotrod engine build but am stuck on which heat exchangers to buy so I'm hoping for some sound advice from those in the know. Here's what I'm working with: I'm using 42mm ITB's Big port SC heads (39mm intake - 35mm exhaust) 100mm Nickies and JE's w/twin plugs and 10.5/1cr (haven't purchased these yet) I have DC GT2 cams w/108 lc (I was told these would be good for low torque and EFI) This all in an SC case and crank yielding 3.3 liters. (3.3 short stroke) So the question is: Should I be looking for SSI's or would this motor be better off with some Bischoff 993 HE's Car will mostly be used on the street with a track day here and there. Thanks, Derek |
Does anyone have some suggestions? Did I provide enough info?
If I had the 3.2 heads, I would go with the 993 flipped flange HE's but I'm just not sure with the SC heads. Please help. Thanks |
Derek: You need at least a 1 5/8 exhaust diameter in order not to give up any horse-power. Recently I used a set of 1 1/2 diameter SSI's on a fairly aggressive 3.0 for the street (10.5/1 twin plug, modified GE-80 cams, 3.2 ported heads, 42mm vent in 46 IDA's) and it just seem to increase the low end with a small decrease in total power. I don't have any dyno numbers to confirm this beyond seat of the pants---It is one of my race engines I refreshed and stuck in my street car.
