Best Method for putting snap ring on crank
Crank came back from crank shop recently, and the intermediate shaft gear, and
distributor gear where not re-installed. So today, put the crank in the freezer, heated up the gears and put them on the end of the crank along with the spacer ring. Now the issue is getting the snap ring on the crank. The ring does not have holes like smaller snap rings, so I tried to put it on several times with a screw driver, all the while trying not to scratch the crank. After becoming frustrated, I decided to solicit help from fellow Pelicaners. The snap ring is a 2.4mm ring and the ring groove is clear, no burrs or obstructions, the snap ring will roll all the way around no problem. Anyone?????? |

There is a special spreader tool, that is like a reverse duck bills with checkering or a dimple that the sharp ends locate on, Snap on has them, Its a tough clip without the proper tool

I just got back from our local Sears tool section and happened to see a pair hanging on the rack so you might look there as well.
Here is what mine look like, they worked great for me: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327290520.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327290548.jpg |
Thanks Steve, and Mike for the tool info. I will try Sears first, if no luck, I will go the Snap-On
route. AV8TOR |
