1980 911SC Head stud choices
 

I know Pelican Parts sells different varieties of head studs, should i just go with the Canyon brand steel studs? Pelican Parts - Product Information: 10-0115-101-M105

I don't know how good those studs are, any advice would be much appreciated.

I don't have any knowledge about how good the Canyon studs are... but if price were very important I'd probably opt for the OE steel (which are $2 cheaper to boot)... You also really should use new nuts and washers... 24 of the Canyon studs with OE nuts and washers are almost $500...

Then I consider that Supertec's complete head stud kit is $660 (at PP), which, for something so vital did not strike me as that big of a big price delta. I ended up choosing Supertec and actually just got them this week.

OE steel studs for a stock rebuild are by all accounts good enough, but I wanted the extra degree of "bulletproofing".

If you are doing a stock rebuild, OEM steel replacements for the lower studs will be sufficient.

When using factory studs with coarse threads, if the inhex nuts remove cleanly (threads and hex tooling) there's no reason not to reuse them. The big sturdy flat washers are very robust. No need to replace those either.

Supertec, lifetime warranty, the way Porsche should have made them. If OE is sufficient why is there so many versions anf improvements and then back to zero? I have had them "ping" off sitting still with no one near them.
