Engine Stand Ring Adapter - Recommended?

I bought an Engine Stand Adapter Ring years ago that I used successfully on several 914 engine rebuilds. I am doing some work on my 911 engine and cannot figure out how the SC motor mounts on the ring. Anybody out there who has used the ring? Curious if it worked out OK for you or if you would recommend the standard Porsche stand. Any pics of exactly how it mounts (or suggestions) would be appreciated.

Thanks!http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1327628088.jpg

Remove the bell housing studs on the starter side top and bottom. Get 2 10mm bolts about 50 to 60 mm long and locate the case onto the ring adaptor. Screw in the 10mm bolts to the bell housing stud holes.
Mount to the engine stand.

Or make 2 spacers for the studs.... like a big stack of washers.

The ring works just nearly as good as the standard adapter. You cant have the clutch on the engine and you cant rotate a complete turn with the heat exchangers on. All issues that kan be addressed with spacers between the ring and universal mount.

Do you recommend a stack of washers as a spacer or will some kind of pipe that fits over the studs work? Does this allow the full rotation? Does this put undue stress on the studs?

One stud needs about a half inch of washers, the other needs about 1.25 inches. Use a 15mm 1/2 drive socket as a spacer on that one. I also used spare headstud washers because they're so thick, you only need 2 or 3 of them and they fit the studs tightly.

I prefer to use specially trimmed galvanized nipples from your local hardware or make some yourself. Or use assorted large nuts. The key is keeping the long studs tight and secure.

Took a picture today of the "washer-spacers" and "pipe-spacer" for the studs.
