2.2 head gasket quickie

So I am confused...two conflicting sources. My 2.2 rebuild gasket kit includes head gaskets (big U shaped ring with internal spring). And there is a signifigant groove in the head that seats the gasket. Yet a couple rebuild sources state that the 2.2 doesn't use a head gasket. I am at that point on my rebuild...I think the 2.2 and 2.4 use the gasket...am I correct?

Yes, the gaskets are used. There was head gaskets until the 3.2 came without them.
