carrera 1988

Hi. I am new to your forum. I reside in Durban South Africa. I do own a 1988 carrera and i need some advice on three issues;
1. The aiconditioner has been re-gassed but does not cool down the interior of the car sufficiently. I have been told that the airconditioners in these models are not very effective. Do you have some advice for me? Is there something that I need to look out for or do I go with installing a whole system?

2. The front windscreen leaks at both the right and left hand corners when water runs down the windscreen. the rubbers look in good condition but I must admit that when I travel at 120km/hr, the is a noise of air entering the car. Is this a common problem to these models because I also drove a 1992 964 and I also experienced the same wind noise from this car. Please advise.

3. The heat shield in the engine compartment of my car has perished. How do I go about obtaining and changing the heat shield. I am looking for the easiest way of going about replacing the shield.

Kind Regards
Michel Paul

Michel,
Welcome to the Pelican, maybe I can help
With the A/C make sure all the fans are working, the front condenser in front of the spare tire
The blower in the smuggler boot, the fan in the defrost (vent on the cowel has a blower below it)
Yes the system is not perfect
Front windshield, try to run some sealant in. There is a better seal available but none are perfect. I use to put permatex 100 inder the seal in the corners to help seal. Dont break the glass, its very expensive.
The sound insulator above the engine. Find the light one as there 2 weights and the heavy one pulls on the glue all the time. Do it with the engine out. Cut an inch off the bottom so you dont have to stuff the insulation behind the wire harnesses.
Good luck,
Bruce

1st, welcome to the best online resource for your car.

This section is primarily used by folks rebuilding their engines.

Your post would receive much more attention in the Porsche 911 Technical Forum
