Polishing Pistons?
Other than cosmetics, is there any advantage to polishing piston domes on a reuild where you re-use the old pistons? If there are advantages, what process do you use?

All that does is reduce carbon buildups a little bit. Its quite labor intensive with little or no payback, but if you have the time,...:)
I use various polishing compounds and plenty of cotton buffs for the wheel. Eastwood has all that stuff. |
It does make it easier to remove the carbon the next time its apart.

Thanks for the responses. Leafing through articles and photos I noticed that some of the after market pistons appear to be highly polished, and I wondered if that bought you anything other than nice looks during installation. I actually do have all the Eastwood stuff to polish metal and am doing that to metal items coming off my engine during the teardown. Haven't gotten to the P&C's yet, so I was just wondering if I should clean the pistons up with a final polish.

I am going to guess they run a fudge cooler
1- no hot spot (s) ((insurence) 2- heat is reflected back rather then absorbed You Opinion may differ then mine...but I know if I had to find 6 mirrors...They are stored in my engine cylinders LOL |
