Engine stand adaptor combo...
Hi, I have to replace at least one broken head stud in my 83 911. This will be my first removal and tear down of the 911. I had a quick couple of questions about engine stands for those who have gone before. I am looking at an inexpensive harbor freight stand:
750 Lb. Engine Stand And these two adapters from our sponsor: Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-TOL-P201 Pelican Parts - Product Information: PEL-TOL-MCDENG Will either of these work with the stand I'm looking at? I saw in a search that the latter cheaper one will, but it provides a bit less room to work on the adapter side of the engine. I don't mind spending the extra $50 and waiting for a longer delivery, I just don't want to get locked into a much more expensive stand if I go that route. Thanks for any info, scott. |

I used to have 4 engine stands. When I ordered the first one I realized the short comings of the attachment. You cant roll the engine with the exhaust on. I contacted the manufacture and had him put 15 inch extensions on the face. S I had 2 short and 2 long. When I moved I couldnt bring all the stands so I brought a couple and all the fixture heads.
The 2 I m showing is what works for me for 30 years with a full dress engine. Engine on the stand is an 81. Bruce ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Any of those would work.........
Scott,
I started my very first engine rebuild using HF engine stand (no yoke). Years later, with an engine adaptor (PEL-TOL-MCDENG) but gradually went to the PEL-TOL-P201 using HF and Mainely engine stands. As of today, I have three (3) engine yokes that has made the work very convenient. It is not mandatory to have these expensive gadgets for a successful engine rebuild but the convenient of having P-201 is worth the extra dollars. The orange HF engine stand in my basement during winter project): ![]() The red HF and Mainely engine stands in garage/carport: ![]() Our friend Bruce is so good and experience that he could do all these engine rebuilds on a table or pallet ( just kidding). I would have not done successfully my engine rebuilds without Bruce advises and help. Keep us posted. Tony |

Get a stand with 4 wheels. The extra stability is worth the few extra bucks. Get the P201 tool. Pelican or Mainely Custom by Design. Worth it as well in my opinion, even if you only use it once. You can always offload it for a few bucks to get something back if you want to.
