Name that head stud
After pulling the heads on my 1975 930 engine for some head work, I can't figure out which head studs these are. Non of them are pulled out or broken so I'm inclined to reuse them. They are non magnetic and a fairly shiny goldish color, no markings at all. I believe all of the Delivar studs are black correct? Anyone know what these are?

I suspect they are early dilivar studs. You are very lucky that none have broken. I'd replace them with the 993 dilivar.

Yeah, my guess is this engine has very low miles on it. Thanks for your input. I'm leaning towards the Supertec studs.

You can't go wrong with Supertec studs.
I've had 4 engines built by Supertec, a 2.5 aluminum case, a 2.45 twin plug mag case, an MFI 3.2 SS and a 3.5 450 wrhp turbo with 55K in 9 years all built with Supertec studs. No problems so far. The 3.5 was my first Supertec engine and since then I've been overwhelmed with the performance, innovation and aesthetics of all my engines. |
My black Dilivar studs in the little pile of scrap metal in the corner of the garage have gold underneath them. I agree with Andy that they're early Dilivar. The early ones were not coated.
