90mm 2.7RS piston rings fit.

Hi everybody.

Another bump on the road. Life of the rookie I guess.

So I have a set of 2.7RS pistons. Got a 90mm goetze rings from pelican ( only one they sell) and the middle compression ring doesn't fit the middle piston groove

Funky piston? Mismatched ring? I did open a few more boxes. All the same. And the same problem in the 6 pistons.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks again

Did you measure the thickness to be sure they are 1.75. Its usually the top groove that deforms from use.

Make sure you have the right set for your pistons and it appears like this isn't the case.

The RS ones are 1.5-1.5-4.0mm

The CIS ones are 1.5-1.75-4.0mm

Like Bruce said, its usually the top ring land that deforms (from detonation), however I've seen some that pinched the second ring groove, too.

Call Pelican first to see if they can get you the proper rings. If not then return them and call EBS. They supplied me custom rings for some pistons I had.

You have CIS rings.

You want 911-103-934-00 for the RS pistons.

Thank you everybody.

I got some emails and PMs.

In fact I have the wrong rings for CIS pistons. Never crossed my mind to consider the height of each individual ring. I thought 90mm was all. Never saw the proper ring set.

The middle groove on the RS piston measures 1.5mm so is the ring (aprox.) on the CIS piston this groove is 1.75mm.

Anyway. I will be getting different ones on monday. You live and you learn. Thanks again.

An incorrectly packaged part could happen with any engine component. Good thing you were able to catch it (although pretty obvious). Better to avoid the assumptions and instead confirm correct fit for any part to install.

I have to thank Pelican Parts.

Fantastic customer service. I'm a very happy loyal customer.

I ordered the wrong rings a year ago and I got a full refund!

Now I have the right ones.

I will keep updating the rebuild...
