3.2 Crankshaft Blues

My engine rebuild has come to a screaming halt.

My machinist has inspected the crankshaft and being the bearer of bad news informed me it is cracked.

I live in Australia and I am having major problems finding a good replacement crank.

The question is does anyone have an 84/89 known to be in excellent condition 3.2 crankshaft they are willing to part with for a good price.

I would like to get one that has been magnafluxed, cross drilled and micro polished but that may be too much to ask for.

I have hit the slippery slope and I am sliding ever faster.

Look at the bright side; the engine could still be together in the car and the crank shaft could have broken there. Now that would be the "slippery slope"!

Lots of good used 3.2 cranks out there. I would source one that is stock and have it cross drilled and polished myself just to make sure it's done correctly. Don't forget the case when you cross-drill.

And once again...when you are looking at replacement cranks....ring the thing to check for cracks before you buy...(hold with tips of fingers in one hand and strike the crank with a wrench on a non bearing area) to get a ringing sound.
If it sounds sour...it is probably cracked....a true "ringing" sound is good.
Fastest way to check a crank.

Thanks for the reply guys, I guess I should look on the bright side as the car came to a gentle stop (no big bag).

I'm not sure I can do the ring test as it is almost impossible for me to find a crank close to where I live, so I just have to rely on the honesty of the person selling it.

Just wondering..... You might be better off buying a long block, use the crank and sell the rest to recoup some money? I'm asking, not suggesting. Some might like to keep the crank and the case together, so maybe not a good
idea.

I think the blues are a changing. Fingers crossed I have found a good crankshaft from one of the members on this forum. It has been magnafluxed and sounds to be in good condition the only down side is the main bearings have been ground 1st under, but the price is very good. Time will tell.
