Packing and shipping an engine case
I need to ship a 2.0l aluminum engine case and have never shipped a case before. All the headstuds have been removed. Any recommendations on how to pack it up? Is there one carrier that tends to be cheaper for a larger and heavy package such as this?

I just packed mine up tonight actually. Finding a box for it was the biggest pain of the process. Uhaul has a 'dish' box that's double walled and fits perfectly though.
I wrapped the case securely with pallet wrap, put a couple inches of foam at either end and packed the rest of the box with packing peanuts. |
Call the machinist that is doing your case, they may have special requests. I have to ship mine off as well and the shop requested that I do not include styrofoam or peanuts.

We use a double wall cardboard box with 4 instapak # 20 self inflating bags.
The box is 24x17x17. Instapak® Packaging - Sealed Air North America http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1333117212.jpg |
Thanks all for the tips.

I've heard of people using Igloo coolers for shipping a 915 transmission before, but not sure if the engine case would fit.
