88 Carrera top end 3/12

I picked the car up yesterday, 109, 800 miles. Diagnosis, low compression in one cylinder, compression all over the place relative to each other.
This morning, time to take it out, valve job and reseal and I got to get started.

Monday, Rick and Greg, I read your post and they have disappeared.
I spent this afternoon removing the exhaust with the fire wrench and fan and shroud. There is no broken dilivars so the heads will be square.
Oil all over from flipping the engine. Lots of parts for the parts cleaner.
It ll all come around.

I got the heads off and apart. I have the P&Cs in the box and the short block with the rods hanging out.
I have never seen the red on the valves like are on these valves. The red was also on the sparkplugs.
Anyone know the cause for the red, I d like to know. I drove the car about 100 miles before pulling the engine so everything should be deemed to be fresh.

I ve got the cylinders off, the dilivars pulled and case split. The posting got more hits on the Tech side of the forum but this is where I intended to post.
Try not to duplicate too much.

It was a nice day in the Carolinas so I got some work done. Pressure washed parts yesterday got them dry for today. Assembled the bottom end all the way to the inital torque on the through bolts.

No kidding, you work quickly!

Re: the red coloring of the valves, I cross-posted your pics to a euro forum to see if any bright ideas turn up. I'll chime in here if any do...

Bruce,

I always enjoy reading your threads. Is this a customer car? Do you pick up (buy) cars, fix and resell? If so, when I'm ready to buy I'll contact you.

Bruce,

Did you get my e-mail on the B&B Muffler repair? Haven't heard from you.
