thow out bearing help,...urgent...movie
i am trying to get my engine and trans back together and i am stuck with the throw out bearing,....
all i remember is when i unbolted my trans for the first time, the throw out bearing fell right out... this is a 1980 930 3.3, stock pressure plate, and new throw out bearing, new clutch... all same part numbers as what was there stock... this can deff not be right, its loose and falling all around... DSCN0257.AVI The best amateur photography lives on Webshots there is a groove that it looks like the fingers are supposed to sit in, but it would have to be pressed in from behind really hard it looks like?????? ![]() Last edited by jimtweet; 04-17-2012 at 10:46 AM.. |

The throw out bearing rides on the guide tube on the tranny
It looks like you have it between the pressure plate and the clutch disk. The face of the bearing for the throw out bearing rides against the fingers of the pressure plate. |

The TOB sits in the proper place. When you tighten the pressure plate it will cause the fingers to move and tighten to the TOB. The TOB is located with the tightening of the PP.

Of course, thats not right. Where is your thrust washer and spring washer. Those are what connect the bearing to the pressure plate fingers. Missing parts. Consult your Bentley.

There are 5 or 6 parts depending on how you count them that work to lock the bearing to your pressure plate. They usually require a short "procedure" to get them apart, at least thats whats done with my 87 carrera.

Then my bad. Just looked to be a shadow on the fingers where other parts may have been. Geometry wise, wouldn't seem you could close the fingers (reduce the diameter) enough to establish a strong lateral grip to the bearing without other parts. I obviously have no knowledge of the 930 specific set-up. PP looks virtually same as mine. Good luck.
