993 Valve Lifter Question
 

I'm putting my 993 motor back together. I purchased new lifters. In the shop manual it says you are supposed to check the "slop" in the lifter after a valve job. You are supposed to use a lifter that has no oil in it. When I use the brand new lifters I don't have the required "slop". In fact on the exhaust side as I screw the rocker down with the cylinder at TDC (backside of the cam lobe) the valve actully opens a bit.

My question is does anyone know if the new INA lifters come preloaded with oil. If I use one of my old "collapsed" lifters I have the required play. If the new lifters are too tight will they loosen up after the engine is started?

Yes and yes. Providing that you have the appropriate lash using a non pumped up lifter.

Thanks for the confirmation. It is kinda of freaky seeing the valve lift off of the seat when I know it should be closed.

We have two sacrificial lifters that we use here in the shop just for measuring the lash. One for Turbo engines and one for the normals.
