				Another cam question

In the course of rebuilding my mostly stock 3.2, I am considering replacing or regrinding my cams to 964 profile. I have read much of the info on this board and elsewhere regarding what profile to use.

My quesion revolves around the process more than the profile. I have read that the hard welding process used to reprofile cams can cause stock rockers to wear prematurely. So this leaves me with another decision to make. What is the preferred process here? Can I source a set of good used 964 cams, cut off the power steering drive, and use with my original (very nice) rockers? If I send my 3.2 cams out for a regrind do I need to have the rockers resurfaced with a different material that is compatible with the cam's new hard-welded surface? Can I reprofile my 3.2 cams and run the stock rockers or will this just lead to problems down the road? I was going to just run my original cams and rockers since they show little to no wear but I'm so deep into this project now that I think I would regret not going the little extra distance with the cams. |

JMHO.... Rather than having your cams hardwelded, I would source a real nice pair of 964 cams, machine off the PS drive and install. Your rockers should be reground no matter what you use. ![]() Its critical that you break in the cams and rockers correctly to ensure long-term durability and that means using the correct lube for the cams and using a high ZDDP oil for a short time.

What process is required to make the rockers live with a hard welded cam regrind?

I have them hard-chrome plated after grinding.
