Oil pressure sending problem

When I'm driving along the oil pressure will read around 60psi and then I run over a bump and the gauge will drop to zero for a second or two then return to the previous reading. what causes this? Should I be looking at the sending unit on the engine or the gauge on the dash? I know if I remove the wire from the sending unit the gauge will top out with the ignition on.

Either the sender is going bad or the wire to the sender is grounding out somewhere. I suppose the guage could be losing power intermittantly.

OK, I see removing the wire to the sender will send the gauge to the top, ground the wire it will drop to the bottom. I'll search for a grounding problem first.

Yes that mean your gauge is OK and more than likely the connector is too loose in the post.

I had to crush the connector a bit to get a tight fit and the sporadic up and down stoped
