oil cooler options - 3.2 into 914-6 ?

started my 3.2 upgrade this week - replacing a 2.7 fitted with an oem 914-6 cooler

noticed yesterday that the lower intake feed pipe of the 3.2 oil cooler is larger than my 2.7/914-6 cooler feed pipe

- so what is difference, if any, other than the obvious lack of a 90* bend inlet, ?

A> - can i just fit the older 914-6 cooler ? It appears the overall dimensions are equal

B> What are the options to convert/fit the 3.2 cooler into the 914-6 with that 90* bend issue?

C> are there any 90* fittings that can be "easily" fitted" without removing the 3.2 cooler for a welding job?

- in past I have had a -6 cooler "bend conversion" done by Otto's on a 911 cooler, so I know about that option

- i can't see any real need to go to that trouble since "originality" is not my concern and there is no apparent reason to have those -6 custom high-pressure hoses on the intake line

- there is no high pressure in that line, and the carreras used a simpler slip on hose

(I DO have a front mounted 914-6 GT Behr cooler as well)

TIA for ideas or advice

Big difference between 3.2 and 3.6.
3.2 use -6 oil cooler

3.6 use patrick adapter fitting and huge front cooler.

If you dont want to use factory stuff then have a AN fitting welded onto the 3.2 cooler.

:)

larrym-

Your 914-6 oil cooler has the same physical & thermal capacity as the 3.2 engine oil cooler, and will interchange directly. Your 914-6 uses M26x1.5 threads and the original 3.2 cooler uses a 30mm push on type hose from its original 3.2 oil tank. It is the suction side into the motor.

What are the thread sizes on the GT front cooler? I can supply you with all the Metric hose & fittings you need. If they are M26, then stick with them throughout. If the front cooler fittings are M30, then I can help you with adapter fittings & hoses.

super !

- thanks for the advice - it's what i need to know b4 actually pulling 'em both off to compare

mea culpa - mostly was trying to avoid it cuz it's a lot of extra disassembly on both engines to get at the top cooler nuts since i have to pull the air shroud & that means pulling all the induction & buying more new parts to re-assemble

- I will just fit my 914-6 cooler

I have two 914-6 oem coolers, one installed on the current 2.7, one in box, so it's not a $$ issue - just a time issue

my front oem GT Behr cooler is already properly attached since 1972 in Germany

but it's NICE TO KNOW someone has the metric fittings !!!!!
