crankshaft installation

Is there a trick (other than growing two more hands) to get the assembled crank into the case and get the nose beating to line up with the dowl pin?

I fought with this for a few hours yesterday and ruined the seal in the nose bearing. I did use Wayne's method of marking the bearing before installation.

Thanks,

Thanks,

peppy,

I had a similar problem putting back the assembled crankshaft over the case halve. So I thought there must be a simple way to install it without the hassle of holding the crankshaft assembly and lining up the nose bearing. First it was too heavy for me to even hold the crankshaft assembly and position it over the waiting crankcase halve for several seconds to line up the nose bearing.

The first contraption I used was to have the assembled crankshaft suspended in air over the awaiting crankcase by installing the crankshaft pulley bolt and flywheel bolt on both ends with a 2 feet chain link attached to a pulley. And the other set-up I last used was instead of the pulley and rope, hang the crankshaft pulley assembly to my engine hoist and gradually lower it to the crankcase.

This procedure willl take longer than the conventional method of grabbing it and hoisting over the crankcase and setting it down. Sometimes the nose bearing lines up easily but not all the time. With a bad back and not being able to lift heavy weight is something I have to overcome doing this type of work. HTH.

Tony
