Major oil leak
Hi everyone - I am a newbie to the site for posting but have read lots of posts for a couple of years now. I love this site!
I have a 72 911E that has developed a truly awe inspiring oil leak. I was having fun pushing it a bit too much when it started smoking. Oil literally pours out of the tail pipe. I haven't purchased Wayne's rebuild book kit but plan too. Plugs do not appear to be fouling, no apparent leaks on the engine, engine runs ok (smokes like crazy), I drained oil to try to isolate the intake out of the equation. I guess a compression check is in order. Anyone care to offer a guess? I'm thinking broken ring. Any help is appreciated. |

if the plugs are not dirty/wet my vote goes on an exhaust valve guide/seal, allthough at higher RPM the pressure in the header should keep the oil from leaking back into the exhaust stream and the smoke should disappear. At least this is what I've expirienced when a valve seal broke on another of my engines.

Had a strange one long ago....the valve guide came loose in the head.
So the guide was leaking around the seal....produced tons of oil in the exhaust system. Was also a devil to find until the head was torn down. Bob

Just to wliminate the simple: you didn't by chance top off the oil tank recently? Wouldn't be the first time that an overfull oil tank was discovered during spirited driving.
