Engine Mount Oil Cooler Problems

I've now run two aftermarket oil coolers on my '69 911 2.0litre motor race car. Both have leaked, one has split along the edge and the other just leaked internally. Is anyone having the same problem ??

Are old original coolers better than new non-factory ?? is there a alternative ?? are the later ones with a push on hose better ??

Any help would be appreciated.

I've gone through 3 coolers in 2 years (all used stock coolers). My latest one has lasted for a year so far. Don't waste your money on the aftermarket one. I bought one and had to send it back. It was a joke. The mounting plate didn't have a separating rib in it to keep the oil from just bypassing the cooler. You could stick a wire in one hole and it would come out the other with out going through the cooler.

The best option is to bypass the on engine cooler and only use a scavenge circuit cooler. I did this for awhile last year and it solved the leaking problem. Unfortunatly my car ran too hot without the engine cooler and I didn't want to use a bigger scavenge cooler. Make sure your car is running at the proper oil pressure and that you warm it up good before running high RPM.

Carrera cooler.......

Andrew,

In case you need an OEM Carrera cooler, I have an extra unit available. BTW, I'm flying to Sydney in 2 weeks and leaving my golf bag behind. Have enough space to bring the cooler to Sydney and mail it from there. PM if you need one or small parts.

Tony
