Why is finding a replacement piston turning into such a quest?

I snapped off one of the skirts on my #6 piston during disassembly (1983 911SC 3.0) and so far, none of the places I've searched (EBS Racing, Parts Heaven and Henry Schmidt) has a replacement piston to match my damaged one. Buying a whole set seems like overkill and I'm told the difference between a "1" and a "3" piston is less than .001"...so, I'm pondering buying a "2" since no "3's" appear to be available. Either way, I'm stuck until I find a solution.

Here are pics of my piston and cylinder markings...any advice would be welcome.

Find a delta5 cyl and piston and just match the weight and youre good to go. Youre matching alucil so youre best to take the whole run together unit.

Thanks, Bruce

I've been exploring that, and nearly every other option I can think of. So, I'm bound to solve this piston issue sooner or later.

Thanks, but from all the kind, but pointed feedback I've been getting from respected engine rebuilders regarding Alusil, if I were going to buy a new set of P&C's I'd need to go with Nikasil.

I don't think Alusil gets the credit it deserves. From what Ive seen its pretty durable and wears pretty good. If you wanted you could get your cylinders replated with Nikisil.
