Piston squirters or notched rods?
I have explained my situation here
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/911-engine-rebuilding-forum/692556-oversized-case-bearings.html If I go with my other case (B) it will need some kind of piston cooling. I ran across a post here about notching the rods as an alternative to piston squirters. It is much easier to notch rods than install squirters. I am running a 993 oil pump and have cross drilled all of my main journals and grooved all the main bearings. I should have plenty of oil moving. Of course I won't spend a lot of time idling. Anyone have some thoughts? Opinions? |
If you go the notched rod way....be advised that the notches have to be in the correct place.
Left and right rods will be different (because of the rotation)...and timing of the rotation to position of the notch so that the oil gets thrown up into the cylinder is very important. I have notched rods on drag cars...and found that too much oil will have a smoking effect on the engine. The oil rings will sometimes "glide" over the oil film and you end up with a smoking engine. The squirted oil should hit the underside of the piston and very little go on the cylinder wall. Bob |
