Backfire Through Carbs
Pulled apart my 2.2T motor and installed rings. Now the compression is good but it runs very rough and pops through the carbs on the Left side. #1 cylinder doesn't seem to be firing at all. Did I not get the Cam Timing right?

Check your ignition timing first as that's easy to get wrong and easy to fix.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been messing with this for a while now trying to avoid a teardown. Disassembled back to the Cams with the engine still in the car last night. I'll start from scratch again.

Cams seem to be right on the money - assuming that I'm doing it correctly:
Z1 mark lined up with timing mark on the fan housing, distributor rotor pointed at plug 1, both cams have the "dot" at the top. Dial indicator zero's on 1st intake valve spring on left side. Roll engine over 360 degrees to Z1 with rotor pointed towards #4. Dial reads .100" repeatedly. Crank is now left at 360 degrees, the starting point to zero dial indicator on intake valve #4. Roll engine 360 to Z1 at 0/720 degrees with rotor pointed back towards #1 and dial indicator reads .100' repeatedly. Are we all in agreement with my methods as I was really hoping to find a cause for rough running and fire from carbs....... |
I see no error in your method.
