Oil pressure relief piston

Hello,

I have a 77 2,7 engine. The oil pressure isnīt very good, but right now the main problem is another. When I drive the car everything is fine. When I park it after one day it starts leaking oil on several spots. Now I found out, that after 3 hours nearly all oil of the oil tank found its way into the engine. Normally I have about 2 liters oil out of the engine, now I have 10... I thought that the side mounted prtessure spring might be broken, but it isnīt. But now I found a picture in the web which shows other pistons than these my engine have installed. The pictured pistons have holes, mine doesnīt. I have no oil by pass mods. Attached are the pistons which were installed in my engine. Is this correct?

many thanks and sorry for my english.

Regards Malte

The ones with the holes are the non bypass pistons from the earlier engines. When the bypass mod is done the pistons have to be changed to the solid type. The bypass bacame part of the casting about 1975.

Thanks for the answers. But if the bypass mod was done in 1975 by the factory, I should have the longer spring on the buttom!? Or do misunderstand you?

Thanks, regrads malte

AFAIK the oil mod was never done by the factory to a 2.7 case
With out disasembly or paper work..I do not know how you would know if done or not?
From where on the engine does it leak to the out side world?
Valve cover are prone to leak
rocker shafts while setting still cause in fact the oil will seep dwn into the engine while at rest

OK...again-Oil going back dwn in the engine is NORMAL as far as I know (when at rest)
Leaks to the ground... we all have some (well most) LOL
Oil Pressure - is up for the questions
10 pound per 1000 rpm...
Cold you will see more then that ..Hot it will stop around 40
Thats my experience, others may offer you something else.
Cam restricters- really help, But the stock 2.7 oil pump has a smaller scavage side....so.......
If you have oil mods you will have the SC pump in there (or bigger)

Thanks, I understand what you are writing, my only question is if I should have other pistons than these you can see on the first picture.
