993 head studs loose after rebuild?
Hi There
I did a top end rebuild on my 993. The engine was oil tight at first, but after a very few miles is now weeping oil heavily from the cylinder bases. I was very careful torquing the heads, but is it likely/possible that they need torquing again? I did not replace the studs. Also can the heads be re-torqued with the engine in the car? I used a Wrightwood racing gasket set and a smear of hylomar blue. Thanks in advance for any opinions. Berni |
If you are leaking at the base I doubt that loose studs are the issue since there was crush on the base O-ring and low pressure drop across that gasket. Sounds like the gaskets have been compromised. I am not familiar with the paste you applied to the O-rings but suspect that to be suspect since it sounds as though you have had multiple seal failures. Most literature I have seen suggests installing those O-rings dry or with Curill.

What torque did you use originaly on the head studs?

The head studs on these aren't torque to yield/stretch?
