3.0 CIS 964-grind cam only...worth it?
Gents, my 83 is stock where it counts. I'm having some things cleaned up, and the cam guy is pushing the 964 grind. I've read many threads on the topic. But is there any benefit to going that way without other modifications e.g., pistons, valve springs... ? He suggests an adjustment to timing, as described in this forum in multiple threads, will compensate for any loss of low-rpm torque. Is it worth it, or should I go with the standard sc grind?

Do your cams need to be reground? If so, the 964 profile is a no brainer as it costs the same as a stock regrind.... They do add some performance in an otherwise stock motor, and if the motor is apart and the cams need to be ground......

Thanks, Jeff. Yes, they need a little work.

Yes, its worth it. Esp. if you mod. your exhaust and timing.

how does the combination of small port heads and narrow runners work with the 964 cams ?
