Issues with expandable oil return tubes
 

Hi guys,

I am installing the expandable oil return tubes on my 3.2 Carrera engine. I bought them on my local ebay, just to clarify that they are not from our host this time.

My issue is that I cant slide them together to be able to install them on the engine! Maybe I am dumb as a rock, but to me it looks like the two middle o-rings is too thick and doesnt allow the cover piece to be slided over the more narrow piece (the one with the o-ring slots). I lubed them up and pressed pretty hard, but I could not get them to slide together.

Can anyone please share the supposed size on the o-ring? or tell me what I am missing?

I know that some of the guys put clamps on them so there is something to press against when you try to expand the unit as they are tight.

Mine are not assembled, so I havent even come far enough to worry about that.... :-)

Could you post some pictures of the collapsible oil return tubes? Just curious about the problem you are having. I have several old and used oil return tubes ready for disposal and they seem to slide pretty well except those that were dented and crushed.

the green seals will not slide on oil or grease. silicone paste like dow 111 is your only hope. goober it on and work fast. use it on the outer too.

This is way too tight, even with silicone lube it feels like I am going to break it.

Does this one really look right? It would be great if someone could verify the o-ring dimensions. I got them to be 29 mm outer dimeter, thickness 3 mm.

everything looks right but put the snap ring on first and slide it down the tube. You could a wood clamp to compress the tubes together. Once there in, they do slide easer. expanding in place is tough but the hose clamp procedure does work if you have not removed the exhaust manifolds. keep after it oh and yes there are 4 to do!!

Now I have tried everyting, including buying a big-ass wood clamper. There is NO WAY to get it together without breaking it. I have tried silicon grease, oil, hammer, wise grips, and now a wood clamper.

Could someone please measure their o-ring sizes? The only explanation that makes sense is that they must have sent me the wrong size o-rings....

Feel the inner edge of the larger tube (where it first slides over the orings) for any roughness. Sometimes there remains an edge from the cut that must be removed. Even a small amount needs to be removed in order for the tube to slide over the oring.

Then again, this is the second thread in as many weeks concerning wrong size orings on these tubes.

Those o-rings look wrong to me. They look like the same ones as the end rings. Mine were much smaller.
