3.6 993 Rods ... Upgrade or not. Other rebuild ???'s.
 

So Ive been doing alot of thinking about the 3.6 rebuild that I am going to be imparting on here soon. I have read alot about the aftermarket rods but I havent been able to come to a clear conclusion. 1/2 say the stock rods are good with aftermarket hardware and the other half say go carrillo or pauter rods. Doesnt look like Ill really gain much IMHO for the money by changing out rods. Max RPM is 7K. Ive seen nice used carrillo rods that are used on Ebay .. can I go this route and still be safe?

Will run PMO carbs with dual MSD boxes and two carrera coolers.

Engine will be mated to a 915/44 with all the mods .. side plate, gate shifter, LSD, and new bearings.

Crank will be removed and sent out for polishing and cross drill mods. Will keep the 993 oil pump. Engine might have a spun bearing but can confirm until I disassemble. Was told the engine still spins freely with out resistance ... ???? Either way new bearings, seals, maybe rings. A nice refresh. Heads will be cleaned and valve guides inspected. Would like to run RS cams.

Am I missing anything else in order to accomplish this? Thanks.

If you are planning on doing DE events, I would NOT use the stock 993 rods and bearings.

Pauter or Carillo rods (or Arrow) are preferred as are better rod bearings. I would also cross-drill the crank and groove the center main bearing if the engine will see 7K, something quite possible with RS cams.
