1975 2.7 w/3.0 Big Bore Head Gaskets

Hello everybody. A customer brought me a 1975 2.7 motor that would not start. The problem turned out to be excessive internal friction so I needed to take the motor apart. The motor had been upgraded and rebuilt by company you are all very familiar with, Motor Miester. The internal friction issues turned out to be a combination of MM cutting corners and customer stupidity that I will not bore you with.

The issue I'm having at this point is that I need to acquire head gaskets for the MM 3.0 big bore kit that has been installed on this motor. I contacted the company by phone but nobody would talk to me about purchasing the gaskets I need but instead wanted to email me. Instead of giving me a price for their fine product, MM wanted to jerk me off asking questions as to why I needed to go into the motor. I had the customer call them then they contacted by email again basically saying I never returned their email. I was polite and courteous and explained why I required head gaskets that only they(?) seem to be able to provide. Well several emails later on my end and still no response. So I ask this: Does anybody know where I can buy the proper head gaskets that will work with a MM 3.0 big bore kit? 2.7 gaskets will fail (ask me how I know) and Porshe 3.0 gaskets leave too large of an exposed parting line between the head and the sleeve. The Porsche 3.0 gasket would allow the engine to run but the edges of the parting line would promote detonation and would eventually the parting line edges would erode.

TL;DR, I need to find head gaskets to fit a MM 3.0 big bore kit.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I'm with Flat6pac, just start completely over, don't use anything "tainted" by MM. It's not worth it.

Maybe try a place that makes custom head gaskets for other engines? Google comes up with Gasket Works but I don't know anything about them. I know they aren't your typical head gasket but they still might be able to make what you need.

Do you have pics of the original head gaskets, cylinders, heads, etc? That might help figure this out.

Thanks for the input guys. I've given up hope on MM as Jerry will not talk to me when I call (he's busy) and he will not answer my emails. My customer dropped $17k to MM for engine and transmissions mods but had only been able to enjoy his car for about 10 total minutes.

I have completely gone through the motor with new bearings, rings, seals, etc., but I made a judgement call on the head gaskets. I was concerned that the stock head gaskets would protrude slightly into the combustion area when crushed. The motor started and sounded like a million bucks....... for one heat cycle, then the head gaskets started to pop. This is not insurmountable and the custmer was made aware of this prior to final assembly.

I will be pulling the motor later this week and popping the heads off. I have contacted an engineer friend about the matter and I have some contacts in the aviation industry that might be able to help me with some gaskets that will be of the correct diameter and thickness. It's funny that there's never time to do things right but there's always time to do them over.

I will be documenting my quest and when I find a gasket that works I will post on this board and I will also let Pelican parts know about the availability.

Thanks again for the input.
