Best way to square piston rings in bore for measuring?
I'm trying to measure my ring end gaps on my 930, and i can't use the pistons to square the rings in the bore due to the shape of the piston head. What should i use? I don't know what the tool for it is called..

Use a ring compressor. You do have one, right?

Use the bottom of the piston. Top of the turbo piston is flat. I dont see why you couldnt use it.

Use a pair of calipers with a depth gauge on them. Put the ring in the cylinder and then check the depth of the ring from the top edge of the cylinder spigot down to the ring surface. Check around the perimeter of the cyl in several places and get your depths all the same. Then you're square.

You can google "ring squaring tool". You might find something cheaper than these... JEGS Piston Ring Squaring Tools - JEGS
You may also want to check the Stomski web site. They sell several Porsche specific tools. |
