What is the difference between 930-103-981-03 and 930-103-990-01?
There seem to be 2 different Mahle Piston & Cylinder sets for 3.2 engines out there.
Predominantly 930-103-990-01 for 84 - 89 model years, but also a few 930-103-981-03, which are listed as being for 84 & 85 model years. Anyone know the difference between the 2? I was under the impression that there were no internal changes from 1984 - 1989. |
Offhand, I cannot remember which is which, but most US P/C's were Alusil and most Euro ones were Nikasil. Naturally, the Euro ones were forged, not cast.

Both part numbers are listed as Mahle / Nikasil. Pelican lists the 990-01 as superceding 981-03.

I ordered a set of the 981-03, and when they arrived, both part numbers were on the box. Mahle called them 990-01, and the place I bought them from had a 981-03 sticker on there .... so I suppose the difference is nil.
