Loctite 510

Please forgive me but I have done some research on the Loctite products.

1. 574 is special order locally. People look at you strange!

2. 510 cures much slower, 22 deg C 50% in 3 hrs (574 50% in 45min). Much more forgiving of DIY types IMHO.

3. Up to 200C temperature, degrades to 50% at 200 deg C (574 hot strength degrades to 25% at 150C)

4. $20CA for 50ml size.

5. Loctite recommends a primer for aluminum, p/n 19269

6. 574 remover (in case you tried and did not like 574 )- p/n 79040

7. 518 is also a good alternative to 574 but cures up faster. Cure time is very similar to 574. In my opinion a little too fast for a DIY guy!

FWIW, Hope this helps someone.

How about 573? I only can find 573 and 510 in my country. Have any one use 510 for a high power 930 3.3 engine?

I had excellent results with 510. My engine has been running strong with no leaks since rebuild in 2004.

Thanks Norm, this is actually quite timely. I'm looking for engine sealants at the moment.

510

Places like Benson's and Ottawa fasteners carry 510.
